Success all around the Matterhorn

Zermatt Bergbahnen - a company with a history

Clouds Clouds Clouds

200 kilometres of pistes. 32 lift installations. 260 employees. The biggest cable car company in Switzerland. The history of Zermatt Bergbahnen is fascinating, just as fascinating as the towering mountain massif that is the centrepiece of the company’s activities.

TRANSPORT SERVICE

The mighty Matterhorn is not only the legendary symbol of the region, but also a place brimming with unique opportunities for sport, relaxation and fun. To give locals and visitors from all over the world the best possible access to this breath-taking mountain world, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG has for many years been working to a carefully thought-out transport and tourism concept.

This is based in no small part on a combination of different areas of expertise. On 15 February 2002, a merger brought together Matterhornbahnen AG, Zermatter Rothornbahn AG, Standseilbahn Zermatt-Sunnegga AG, with the sport area of the Gornergrat railway as a contribution in kind. The Riffelberg ski instructors' lift and the chairlift at Findeln were also included. The result was the country’s biggest cable car and lift operator and an impressive success story centred on the Matterhorn.
